Black History Month October 2025
Celebrating Black History Month at Wyvil
Children will experience:
Storytelling sessions with celebrated storyteller Sandra Agard, sharing traditional tales, poems and stories from African and Caribbean heritage.
Drama workshops with Bigfoot Arts, where pupils will meet inspirational Black Britons such as Ignatius Sancho and Olive Morris through performance and role play.
Music and drumming with Mr Facey, exploring rhythm, musical traditions and cultural identity.
Art and sculpture with Art4Space, creating clay “guardians” inspired by Nigerian artist Ben Enwonwu, which will be displayed as a collective “Field of Guardians” in school.
Anti-racism workshops with Champions for Change, encouraging pupils to reflect on fairness, equality and how to challenge racism in everyday life.
STEM focus sessions (for Years 5–6) celebrating the achievements of Black Britons in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
These experiences build on our curriculum by sparking curiosity, developing empathy, and celebrating culture through creativity, music, art and storytelling.
At Wyvil, we believe that Black History Month is not only a chance to reflect on the past, but also to inspire our pupils to become changemakers for the future.
